Review (4): The Calling by Kelley Armstrong

Title: The Calling (Darkness Rising #2)
Author: Kelley Armstrong
Rating: 4.5/5
Overview: Maya Delaney's paw-print birthmark is the mark of what she truly is -a skin-walker. She can run faster, climb higher, and see better than nearly everyone else. Experiencing intense connections with the animals that roam the woods outside her home, Maya knows it's only a matter of time before she's able to Shift and become one of them. And she believes there may be others in her small town with surprising talents.

Now Maya and her friends have been forced to flee from their homes during a forest fire they suspect was deliberately set. Then they're kidnapped, and after a chilling helicopter crash, they find themselves in the Vancouver Island wilderness with nothing but their extraordinary abilities to help them get back home.

In THE CALLING, the sizzling second book in the Darkness Rising trilogy,New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong pumps up the romance, danger, and suspense that left readers of THE GATHERING clamoring for more

The cliffhanger of book #1 was utterly too much to bear and I could NOT wait to get my hands on the second.  This book definitely didn't disappoint.

The action picked up right where we left off and I fell right back into the story.  The first third of the book was so action packed, but then I felt in the middle it just sort of died. But I am pleased to say that the action picked right back up at the end, and yet again, leaving me with another cliffhanger!!! GAHH!

I just love Maya.  She is so genuine and I think that is why I am drawn to the book.  She's honestly one of the best main characters that I have read about.  Daniel and Rafe are still so sweet and swoon worthy in the book.  There were so many times that I was wishing I was Maya

But they were also so many times I wished I wasn't.  The hardships and unknowingness they have to experience throughout the forest is unbelieveable.  There we so many times I wanted to shout at them to not do what they were doing.

I think that Maya and them might have the wrong idea about people that are chasing them.  But I don't want to give any spoilers away.  Let's just say that I don't think these people are as bad as Maya thinks that they are.

We find out a lot about all the different characters and why these people are after them.  A lot of the relationships between characters evolve and we get to know a lot of them more.

I definitely think that this book was sort of like a filter between books 1 and 3.  I think much of the larger action will take place in book 3 and I cannot wait! April please come soon!!!!!!
