You or your Alt? Only one will survive.
The city of Kersh is a safe haven, but the price of safety is high. Everyone has a genetic Alternate—a twin raised by another family—and citizens must prove their worth by eliminating their Alts before their twentieth birthday. Survival means advanced schooling, a good job, marriage—life.
Fifteen-year-old West Grayer has trained as a fighter, preparing for the day when her assignment arrives and she will have one month to hunt down and kill her Alt. But then a tragic misstep shakes West’s confidence. Stricken with grief and guilt, she’s no longer certain that she’s the best version of herself, the version worthy of a future. If she is to have any chance of winning, she must stop running not only from her Alt, but also from love . . . though both have the power to destroy her.
Elsie Chapman's suspenseful YA debut weaves unexpected romance into a novel full of fast-paced action and thought-provoking philosophy. When the story ends, discussions will begin about this future society where every adult is a murderer and every child knows there is another out there who just might be better.

"Be the one, be worthy"
Well, I'm not sure how I really feel at the moment. Maybe I should wait to do this review tomorrow but I just finished the book and I want to get it out of the way. I wasn't too impressed with the book honestly. I finished it in one day but it seemed to gruel on and on forever. I felt like 10 pages lasted forever.
There were times when I felt like there was nothing going on. Like, the stuff that was being said related in no way to the story whats-so-ever. Then there were other times that I felt like the action was way too rushed and could of been played out a little more. This being said, the action scenes did make my heart race and those were the parts where I couldn't stop turning the pages.
I loved the premise of this book though. Everyone person has an "Alt", an identical twin basically just born to different parents. Sometime between the ages of 10-20 you are given your assignment, which is to seek out your Alt and kill them. Whoever lives is the "stronger". I wish that the book was just written a little better and that I connected with it.
