Freshman Forty
by Christine Duval
Publication Date: February 21st, 2013
When eighteen-year-old LaurelHarris discovers she’s pregnant four weeks into the start of her freshman year at prestigious Colman College, she has all intentions of telling her father. But being away at school makes it too easy to hide. And while she can’t explain to her friends, or to herself even, the reasons why she doesn’t want the baby’s father to find out about the pregnancy, the rest of her world begins to unravel.
Freshman year is hard enough. Most girls get through by forming close friendships, finding new boys and a phone call from mom or dad on Sunday. Laurel has to navigate all of it while hiding an unplanned pregnancy from a summer fling...
An imperfect heroine plagued by bad choices and haunted by the memory of her deceased mother and grandparents, readers are sure to identify with Laurel as she navigates teen pregnancy, in secret, in a remote college setting.
ReviewI've never really read any books about pregnancy. I guess I was too scared to try them for some reason but this one was fantastic. Not only was it enjoyable, but I also go to learn a lot more about pregnancy in general. I got so much insight into pregnancy.
Only four weeks into her freshman year of college, Laurel learns that she is pregnant. She has no idea how to tell anyone, even her father. Laurel and her father are not close at all so it is the most difficult to tell him.
I loved Laurel from the very beginning of the book. I was definitely rooting for her the entire book. She was so relatable and I could feel her emotions. I also really liked Mike. I wish he would of been in the story more but maybe that will come in book 2? I also wish I would of learned more about Danny but I also think that is to come.
I could not believe the cliffhanger. I though there would be another chapter but I turned the page and there was the acknowledgements! I was so angry. I wanted to learn more but it makes me want to read book 2 even more!
I think there were some parts of the pregnancy that we didn't really learn about. Laurel mentions to her doctor that her morning sickness was over, but I didn't even know she was having morning sickness. So i was a little confused. There were other questions unanswered but maybe in book 2!
Freshman Forty was originally self-published, but Christine just signed a deal to have it re-released by a publishing house this fall! Follow Christine on Twitter for updates @Christineduval1 or on her Goodreads author page.
